Fresh Japanese Shinchas Arrive: Gyokuro, Sencha, and Genmaicha

The first harvest of Japan’s spring teas has arrived, bringing with it three exquisite Shinchas—Gyokuro, Sencha, and Genmaicha—now available from Masters Teas. Harvested this May in Shizuoka Prefecture, these teas capture the delicacy and vibrancy of early spring, offering tea lovers an authentic taste of umami-rich freshness.

Gyokuro Shincha
From the Shizuoka foothills of Mount Fuji, this first harvest Gyokuro presents a dry leaf aroma with soft nut-like umami and gentle sweetness. In the cup, it reveals complexity beneath subtlety—sweet grass, clover, and a breathy floral finish. Harmonious and balanced, it’s a refined expression of Japan’s prized shaded tea.

Sencha Shincha
Also grown in Shizuoka Prefecture, this asamushi (lightly steamed) Sencha preserves delicate floral notes and adds whispers of toasted macadamia and savory umami broth. Elegant and nuanced, it continues to delight green tea enthusiasts year after year with its timeless character.

Genmaicha Shincha
Pairing crisp early-season sencha leaves with the toasty warmth of roasted rice, this Genmaicha Shincha offers both comfort and sophistication. Its nutty sweetness is balanced by fruity, tangy apricot notes from the sencha, leaving a lingering finish that beguiles the palate.

“These shinchas represent the very essence of spring in Japan,” said Cynthia Fazekas of Masters Teas. “They offer tea drinkers an opportunity to experience fresh, nuanced flavors that only the first harvest of the year can provide.”

Available in limited quantities, these three Japanese Shinchas are now offered exclusively through mastersteas.com. Press samples are available upon request.
